Describe the general nature of the driving task in our complex highway transportation system, while recognizing the importance and seriousness of the highway safety problem.

Students will:

Describe the functions of the HTS in the American social and economic structure.

Identify various types of highways

Explain why driving is on of the most hazardous daily activities

Identify the physical, mental, and social requirements for driving

Describe the kind of activities driver must perform before a trip, during a trip, and after a trip

Identify the type of crime or civil offense committed.

Share reasons for having traffic laws, their enforcement, and violations

Estimate car’s acceleration and speed capabilities, directional control, deceleration and braking capabilities

Textbook, DMV handbook, videos

Differentiation:

I will make appropriate modifications based on each student’s ability, such as peer tutors, one-on-one help, small group, and rereading directions.
