Beginning of year announcement. This is going to be a great year with so many great students! Marian Slade FIELD TRIP ANNOUNCEMENT - Second grade will be going to a play soon. I'm looking forward to seeing those of you who are coming. Marian Slade Dear Parents and Students, Second grade will continue to use more computers. We will be able to access Louisiana Pass with reading and math tutorials. We'll take spelling practice tests and graded tests on Fridays. We'll do star testing to place your child on his reading level and A/R reading tests to help improve your child's comprehension. We will use kid's college and other approved Math and ELA websites. Students love using computers and it comes very naturally to them. We will teach them safe computer practices. Please sign and return parent permission form if your child does not have one on file. Second grade math will consist of the Scott Foresman math book, Investigations in problem solving, and Everyday Counts calendar math. Mountain Math (a sequential daily review of all second grade math concepts) will also be included in math curriculum. Students will have weekly tests on basic addition and subtraction facts. Please flash cards with them weekly! Daily Oral Language (D.O.L.) will be given Monday through Thursday. There will be four sentences each of those four days. On Friday, we'll test students using one or two of the four sentences given each day. Students will be given 4-6 sentences for their final test on Friday. Each student should correctly rewrite their daily sentences in preparation for Friday's test. We have two main reading books for the year. There will be two short comprehension tests every week. One will be material that your child has gone over for the week and the other will be in Leap test form, (one that your child has not gone over). These two tests in addition to vocabulary and spelling will make up the reading test packets for Fridays. A writing sample will be done once a week along with the D.O.L., and a grammar sheet for the language grades. The homework page will be typed every month and put on the web page and also sent home in folders every day inside a page protector. If you need another sheet for the refrigerator please let me know. Please do not take the page protector homework sheet out of the binder.!!!!!! The only thing that changes from week to week on this same 5-week sheet, will be the vocabulary words and the spelling words. What you will do is note the correct week for the correct spelling and vocabulary words, and note the day for the correct day's homework.
