Social Studies Welcome to the
Tourism Project

YOU have been hired as co-chairman of the Tourism Department in one of the United States.

It is YOUR job to convince people to come visit your state.

You will be working to develop a tourism campaign (report) which you will turn in. For your
presentation, you will design a 16” x 20” billboard and a 5” x 8” postcard. I will provide the billboard
paper and card for your final copy. You may be as creative as you would like. However, your
campaign MUST include at least 1 of each of the following information and attractions:

•	History
o	What significant historical events took place in your state? (i.e. battles, signing of an important
document, discovery or invention of an important item, etc.) Where can visitors go to discover the
historical events that took place in your state?
o	You must explain what happened with anyand why it is important

•	Recreation
o	What can people do for fun when they visit your state? Where can they go?
o	The attractions can be either indoors or outdoors

•	Cultural Heritage And Significance
o	What are the cultural backgrounds of the people in your state?
o	Where can visitors learn about your states cultural history?

•	Nature
o	Where can visitors go to experience the natural beauty of your state?
o	What will they see? What can they do there?

€	Additional Interesting Information
o	What else should visitors know about your state?
o	Where else can they go to enjoy their visit to your state?

•	You do not need to duplicate information on the postcard and the billboard. A single fact may
go on the postcard, while the rest go on the billboard. It is up to you to decide which ones should go
on each part.

•	You will be doing most of your research in class. However, you may need to use time at home to
complete your research or to complete your project.

•	Your research will begin with an internet search of key resources for your state. You will also be
provided with websites that you may check out to help you with your project.

•	In addition to the internet, you are encouraged to use additional resources such as an
encyclopedia or other books about your state.

Science--We will spend a couple of days a week in Science lab programming the robots to move
around within a circle.

Science assignments are to complete a set number of Science Cards each week. Students will lneed
to complete these in class independently. If assignments are turned in late, they will lose 2 points a
day from the weekly total points.
