Our Religion texts for the 5th, 6th, and 7th graders, CREDO: I BELIEVE, FOLLOWING CHRIST, and LIFE OF GRACE come from the Faith and Life series by Ignatius Press. The texts, along with activity books, emphasize the importance of the scriptural basis of our Faith in accordance with sacred tradition and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.Religious artwork, new vocabulary, and their definitions are introduced. Questions and answers have been included in each chapter with relevant references to the Catechism. Common Catholic prayers have been inserted in the text, with an expansive list of prayers in the student text. The activity books provide a variety of reinforcement tools in a separate book. Some activities include drawing, coloring, puzzles, exercises, with some focused on reading comprehension and memorization. In the 5th text, CREDO: I BELIEVE, there is an introduction to the Creed and the teachings of Faith. The student will be able apply simple concepts to the world around him and apply an example from experience to a given lesson. The 6th grade text, FOLLOWING CHRIST, is devoted to the Ten Commandments and the Mass. Students need to be guided to follow Christ with their whole mind and will. Thus, instructing them in the formation of conscience and in the liturgical life of the church is vitally important.LIFE OF GRACE, the 7th grade text, builds on doctrine already taught with emphasis on revelation, grace and the moral life. The text delves into the importance or reason in their lives as Catholics. As 7th graders begin to experiment with independence, it is important that they know that the virtues and sacraments are practical ways to receive and grow in grace which will help them live the moral life to which Christ calls them.Students are responsible for reviewing and studying text material, notes on lessons, activity book assignments, to prepare for quizzes and chapter tests.
