Conduct

    Good conduct and cooperation with others will be stressed in 
PreKindergarten.  Your child deserves a safe and positive 
learning environment and to ensure that academic growth does occur, the 
following classroom discipline plan will allow each child to manage his/her 
own behavior.  It is important to begin building self-discipline by helping 
the children understand that each boy and girl is in school to learn, and 
that it is not fair to interfere with another child's learning.  I encourage 
positive attitudes in students towards themselves as well as their 
classmates by using positive reinforcement and rewards at every opportunity.

    At the beginning of the school year we spend a lot of time reviewing and 
explaining the importance of our classroom rules.  The children learn the 
rules and experience the rewards for following them.  They also learn what 
happens when these rules are broken.


CLASSROOM RULES:
1) Follow directions.
2) Wait your turn and be polite.
3) Raise your hand before speaking.
4) Work quietly.  Don't disturb others.
5) Listen when others are speaking.
6) Show respect.
7) Cooperate with others.
8) Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
9) Come to class on time and be prepared every day.
10) Keep the classroom clean and neat.
*** Please stress the use of good manners at school as well as at home, and 
encourage the practice of always trying to do your best.

CONSEQUENCES:
- Loss of "smiling bear"
- Loss of fun time

RESPONSIBILITY AND COMMUNICATION (The Bear Chart):
1. Everyone starts the day (and hopefully ends the day) with a smiling bear 
on the classroom discipline chart.  Good, cooperative behavior earns a stamp 
for the day on the monthly chart in the folder.

2. First Warning - The student receives a few to several reminders (verbal 
and non-verbal warnings).  If he/she continues the misbehavior, then the 
student must change the bear to a "1st" on the classroom chart.  Through 
December your child will still receive a stamp for the day with a number 1 
next to it to remind him/her to try to do better and to let you know that it 
was a good day, but not a perfect one.  Starting in January, he/she will 
only receive a "1" on the monthly chart and no stamp.

3.  A student may gain his/her smiling bear back again if he/she 
demonstrates good behavior for the remainder of the day after moving to 
a "1st."

4. Second Warning - The student continues to misbehave and must change "1st" 
to "2nd"  on the classroom chart.  Your child will receive a "2" for the day 
on their monthly chart instead of a stamp.

5. Third Warning - The student changes "2nd" to "3rd" on the classroom 
chart.  Your child will receive a "3" for the day on their monthly 
chart and may lose some fun time.

6. If the student continues improper behavior(s), the third warning will be 
removed from the classroom chart, and a note with a detailed explanation of 
the disruptive behavior(s) will be sent home.

7. Students who receive 5 stamps will be rewarded with a special treat from 
the treasure chest on Fridays.

*** The responsibility/discipline chart will start the first week of 
October with the understanding that the students need adjustment time to 
learn and become familiar with the classroom rules and expectations.
