General Information

Admission Policy:
The schools of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Louisiana, admit students of
any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges,
programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at
its schools. They do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national
and ethnic origin in administration of their educational policies,
scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered
programs. Handicapped children will be admitted provided we can adequately
meet the child's needs.

Mission Statement:
The mission of St. Clement of Rome School is to guide and nurture children
spiritually, academically, emotionally, physically, aesthetically, and
socially in order to prepare them to function as productive and responsible
Catholic Christians in today's society.

Philosophy:
It is our philosophy to provide an activity-oriented program that stimulates
and challenges the whole child by focusing on the five domains of development:
1. Cognitive Development:
       a. Mathematical Development
       b. Science Development
       c. Social Studies Development
2. Creative Arts Development
3. Health and Physical Development
4. Language and Literacy Development
5. Social and Emotional Development

These five domains of development (Bulletin 105) are set forth by the
Louisiana Pre-K Content Standards.

Accreditation:
St. Clement of Rome Pre-K 3 is licensed by the State of Louisiana Department
of Social Services and complies with all standards put forth by that
department.

Discipline Policy:
A positive approach to behavior is established on which acceptable behavior
is encouraged. We will try to redirect inappropriate behaviors. If a child
demonstrates a behavior that is disruptive or dangerous, we will remove the
child from the group for a short explanation of why the behavior was
unacceptable. If the child continues the behavior, the child will be removed
again for a time out ("The Thinking Chair") and further explanation. In
cases of severe disruptions or if the child is impeding the safety and
learning of others the parents may be called to pick up the child.

Biting:
A child who bites another child will be removed from the group for a time out
and explanation of the unacceptable behavior. A note will be sent home to
the parents and the incident will be documented. If the skin is broken,
appropriate attention will be given and the parent will be called. If the
skin is not broken, ice will be applied to the bite and the parent will still
be notified. If the child continues to bite, the director and/or teacher
will assess the situation and work with the parents to redirect the child's
behavior. Excessive biting will not be tolerated and may result in removal
of the child from the program.

Potty Training:
Students must be completely potty trained before entering the program. Pull-
ups are not allowed. We understand that a child may have an occasional
accident. If training is not complete and too many accidents occur, the
parent may be asked to keep the child home until potty training is complete.

Health Requirements and Policies:
Your child's health is our first concern. We need the cooperation of all
parents to safeguard the health of every child in the center. A current
immunization record signed by the child's physician must be kept on file.

A child should be kept home if he/she seems to show signs of illness. If a
child becomes ill at school, parents will be notified to pick up the child as
soon as possible. Should the child have a contagious disease, the parents
should let the center know immediately so other parents can be notified.

Children must be able to go outdoors each day except during inclement
weather. Children who are too ill to go outside are too ill to attend
school.

Please DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF YOUR CHILD EXHIBITS ANY OF THE
FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS:

* Runny nose with yellow or green discharge
*  Nausea or vomiting
*  Contagious cough
*  Flushed face or fever
*  Skin Rash
* Pink eye or inflamed eyes
*  Chills
*  Sore throat
*  Diarrhea
*  Earache
*  Any contagious condition

Children with a fever must be fever and symptom free WITHOUT medication for
24 hours before they return to school. Children are still contagious until
they have no temperature for 24 hours without the aid of medication.

To help reduce the spread of illness please encourage your child to wash
their hands after going to the bathroom, as well as before meals.

Medication:
No medication of any kind will be given to Pre-K 3 students at school.

Hours:
Entry Time 7:40 a.m. - 7:55 a.m.
Class Hours 7:55 a.m. - 2:50 p.m.
Dismissal 2:50 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.
After Care 3:15 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Arrival/Dismissal:
Students may enter the school building in the mornings using the west
entrance of Presentation Hall near the Church and Parish Center. You may
walk your child to the double doors or use the drop-off carpool line. If
your child is tardy, you must take him/her to the office and check in.
Please make every effort to have your child to school on time. Late arrivals
tend to be disruptive. If you know your child will not be in school the
entire day, please send a note so that we may be prepared for an early
dismissal. Students will also be dismissed from this location. At dismissal
time parents must walk to the double doors and sign your child out. There
will not be a carpool line at dismissal.

Authorized Pick Up:
Parents must notify the Center in writing if a person, other than those
authorized, will be picking up the child. Persons picking up the child must
be on the authorized list. Persons not readily identified by the staff will
be requested to show a picture I.D. Parents are required to keep current a
list of names and phone numbers of those authorized for pick up. If your
child is to be picked up at a different time or by a different person, PLEASE
SEND A NOTE TO US. If we do not receive a written note and the person is not
on the authorized list, for your child's safety we will not release your
child to them.

Uniforms:
Students wear red uniform shorts and gold uniform shirts with white
crew socks and soft sole black shoes. During cold weather, students
may wear the red uniform sweatshirt and sweat pants. We encourage an SCR
sweatshirt to be left in the children's school bags at all times, as the
temperature in the class may fluctuate. An extra uniform shirt, shorts,
socks and underwear should be placed in a Ziploc type plastic bag with your
child's name clearly marked on the bag and kept in your child's school bag
daily. Please label each item with your child's name.

Snack and Lunch:
Students must bring a morning snack. Morning snack should consist of a
healthy breakfast type food that does not need refrigeration such as: fruit,
dry cereal, cheese and crackers, etc. Snacks should be a quick, nutritious,
finger food that does not make a mess. No utensils are allowed at snack
time. Snacks should be sent in a Ziploc type plastic bag or individually
wrapped WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME CLEARLY MARKED ON THE PACKAGE. Please pack
the snack SEPARATE from your child's lunch if he/she is bringing lunch from
home. Lunch may be brought from home or purchased from the cafeteria.
If your child brings their lunch please be sure to send a spoon/fork if
needed. Payment of lunches is a debit system. A notice will be sent home
from the cafeteria when additional funds are needed in your child's lunch
account. If your child is bringing his/her lunch from home, milk, juice, or
water may be purchased from the cafeteria with available funds from their
lunch account. Please do not send any candy for lunch/snack.

Great Snack Ideas:
Animal Crackers, Apples(Peeled & Cut), Bananas(Whole), Cheese & Crackers,
Cheese Cubes, Dry Cereal, Fruit Pouches, Oranges(Peeled & Cut), Pretzels,
Raisins, Rice Crispy Treats and Teddy Grahams

Nap:
Students will nap in the afternoon for approximately 60 minutes. Nap mats
will be sent home on Fridays for washing. Stuffed animals are not allowed at
nap time, as the children tend to play with them
rather than rest.

Report Cards:
Report cards are issued two times a year, in January after the completion
of the first semester and again at the end of the school year. Report cards
do not need to be signed and returned.

Parent/Teacher Conferences:
Parent/Teacher conferences are held twice a year. Each appointment is
scheduled for 10 minutes. Please be mindful of the time so that we may stay
on schedule. If more time is needed we may arrange to meet again on another
day. If you have questions or feel the need to meet with me at another
time, please send me a written note, and I will be happy to write back, call
you, or make arrangements to meet with you in person.

SCR Red Folder:
Please check your child's folder each evening, including Fridays, for
important papers and take out what is in it before returning the folder the
next day. All notices will be sent home in this folder.

Show & Tell:
Show & Tell will take place weekly and will be related to the letter of the
week. Please assist your child in deciding on an appropriate Show & Tell
item. Show & Tell items should fit in your child's schoolbag. Refrain from
sending very delicate or fragile items, as I cannot guarantee their safe
return. If items are forgotten or your child is absent, please discuss with
them that they will have the opportunity to bring something next time. Do
not send the item the day your child returns.

Toys and Jewelry:
Toys should not be brought to school. Parents will be notified, in writing,
of special exceptions. No jewelry may be worn with the exception of small,
pierced earrings for girls.

Invitations:
As per school policy, birthday and other invitations may not be distributed
on school grounds.

Field Trips:
Pre-K 3 does not go on any field trips, instead we will have several
community helpers visit throughout the year.

All-School Mass:
Pre-K 3 attends the "All-School Masses" throughout the school year. Parents
are welcome to join us and sit with your child. When facing the altar, we
are seated on the far right side closest to the baptismal font.

Feed The Hungry/Mission Money:
Non-perishable food items are collected on the first Wednesday of each
month, known as "Feed the Hungry Day." Please be generous and discuss the
importance of sharing with others. Mission money is collected daily from the
students throughout the year. Please place any donations in an envelope
marked "MISSIONS."

SCR Spirit Day:
Students may wear any SCR shirt to school with uniform shorts, socks and
shoes.

Co-Op Meetings:
The Co-Op's purpose is to support and help the school. Meetings are open
to all members/parents and are scheduled for the third Thursday of
September, November, January, March, and May at 7:30 p.m. Sweatshirts and
Book Store items are sold before the meetings begin. Parents are eligible to
win a cash prize at the end of each meeting, and the winner must be present.
Teachers can also win a cash prize to purchase classroom items. This
prize is awarded to three teachers who have the most parents in attendance.
Please try to attend.

General Information:
Please refer often to the school calendar for school regulations, holidays
and other important information. Information may also be found on the school
website: www.scrschool.org (Click on Teacher Websites for the Pre-K 3
website.)

IMPORTANT: Each parent must sign and return the SCR Handbook Contract &
Technology Form found on the last pages of the school calendar/handbook. If
at any time you are returning papers through a sibling that are needed by the
office, please send a note to let me know.

Emergency Closings:
In case of flood, hurricanes or any other disaster, St. Clement of Rome
School and Pre-K 3 Center will close when Jefferson Parish schools close.
Tune into AM-WWL-870 Radio. It is the official media for emergency closure
of Archdiocesan schools.

Communication:
Good communication between home and school is a fundamental component of a
partnership that ensures a successful and rewarding educational experience
for your child. We request that written communication be used to keep us
informed of any concerns or changes.
