Tests & Grading

Tests will be given in reading, language, spelling, math, religion, science, and social studies. A tentative test schedule is below. Please keep in mind that, while we will do our best to stick to this schedule, it may change due to the length of time needed to study the material. If it seems like we need another day or two to reinforce a concept, then the test may be delayed. Likewise, if it's a shorter unit or the students quickly grasp the concept, the test may be a day earlier. We'll always make the effort to space the tests out, though. Homework will be graded, and classwork may be graded as well.

Math, Social Studies, and Science tests do not have a definite day because it really depends on when we finish the chapter.  They will generally be given on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Math Facts (timed) tests will be every Tuesday. The addition tests are averaged together to get one test grade at the end of each quarter. Here's how it goes: For the first 5 weeks, we will do addition facts 0-10. They will have 10 minutes to complete the test this first week. Then they have one minute less - 9 minutes next week, then 8, until we get to 5 minutes. After completing the 5-minute 0-10 facts test, we will switch to subtraction facts 0-10. Again we'll start out with 10 minutes, and then go down in increments to 5 minutes. After those 5 weeks we will do addition facts 0-18, and then we'll do subtraction facts 0-18. This should make it easier to start out with, but remember to keep practicing ALL of the math facts. Math facts test are every Tuesday. Please study addition and subtraction facts nightly. Thanks!

If a chapter is long in Science or Social Studies and takes more than one week or so to cover, there may be a quiz in between introduction of the chapter and the chapter test.  These quizzes will be announced and posted on the "Your Week at a Glance" page just like tests are.

The grading scale is as follows: A = 94 - 100

B = 86 - 93

C = 78 - 85

D = 70 - 77

F = 69 and below

Test papers will be sent home in the Test Folder on Tuesdays, though I won't rule out actually getting them there on Monday! Test papers are now to be kept at home. Please sign and return the top page stapled to the tests.  Test grades will also be available online.
