Good conduct is an important part of a great classroom. We stress good manners and treating each other with respect and kindness, and everyday is approached with a positive frame of mind. The classroom rules are as follows:
1. Listen carefully and follow directions the first time they are given.
2. Speak kindly to others.
3. Raise your hand and wait until being called on to speak.
4. Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
5. Respect one another and school property.
We use a conduct chart in class. Everyone starts the day with a green light. The first two behavior infractions will result in the card being changed to yellow and then to red; these are warnings. After a child needs to be spoken to about his or her behavior a third time, the cards will be put on the teacher's desk. At this, either a note will go home or a phone call will be made to the parent.
I do not want the students to behave so that they can "get something." We all want our children to act properly so that they'll learn how to be fantastic people with a sense of responsibility for themselves and their behavior. Therefore, the main reward given will be praise and encouragement. That being said, who doesn't love to get a sticker, a treat, a happy note home, or a phone call to Mom or Dad about how great they are? You'll be seeing these things, too.
Please reinforce good manners at home. Our goal, of course, is to treat others kindly so that we can spend all day learning in a caring, happy environment!
Each quarter, the conduct grade will start out as a 100. Each time the card is flipped, one point is deducted. (For example, yellow is -1 point, red is -2 points, double red is -3 points for the day.) That grade is cumulative until the end of the quarter. You will be able to log in each week and see the average. Points will be deducted as necessary at the end of each week, so you'll always be able to see the running total.
