Religion Part 2Chapter 15 We Belong to a Parish 1. Lord's Prayer is the special prayer Jesus taught. 2. Our parish is like a family-we belong to the Catholic Church. 3. A parish is a group of Catholics who join together to share God's love. 4. We share God's love with others. 5. Jesus please help us to love one another as members of a family. 6. We gather together to worship as a parish. Worship is to thank God and praise God. God is wonderful and good. 7. The leader of a parish is called the pastor. The pastor is a priest;. He leads us in worship. 8. Our parish helps many people in need. 9. We gather food and clothing for the poor. 10. We send money in for the missions to serve others. Chapter 16 We Celebrate the Sacraments 1. Jesus celebrated God's love. 2. Jesus gathered with his followers to worship God. 3. When we worship, we use special words like Alleluia and Amen. 4. We pray using words, song and actions. 5. We listen to God's word. 6. A sacrament is a special sign given to us by Jesus. 7. Jesus gave us seven sacraments. 8. Water and oil are used to bless us during some of the sacraments. 9. Light from candles reminds us that Jesus is with us. 10. We worship God with our parish family. Chapter 17 The Church Welcomes New Members 1. The church welcomes new members at Baptism. 2. In Baptism, we become children of God. 3. During Baptism, we are blessed with water in a special place called a baptismal font or pool. 4. Grace is God's life in us. 5. Water is a sign o the life God gives us. 6. A white garment reminds us to live as a follower of Jesus. 7. A candle reminds us to walk in the light of Christ. 8. The priest baptizes us in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. 9. Holy water is water that has been blessed bya priest. 10. Baptism is the first sacrament we receive. Chapter 18 We Are Followers of Jesus 1. We believe that Jesus is the Light of the World. 2. We are told to "walk always as children of light." 3. We share the light of Christ when we care for others. 4. Jesus said, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." 5. Someone who works for peace is called a peacemaker. 6. When we are baptized, we receive tha light of Christ. 7. God loves us and made us very special. 8. We can make choices as children of God. 9. We sing and pray together to show that we are one family. 10. Pope Pius X tried to keep countries from going to war. Chapter 19 We Celebrate God's Forgiveness 1. In the story Jesus told, the loving father showed forgiveness to his son. 2. God lways forgives us if we are sorry. 3. Jesus wants us to follow God's laws. 4. We receive and celebrate God's forgiveness during the sacrament of Reconciliation. 5. During Reconciliation, we can talk with the priest about what we have done wrong. 6. When we celebrate reconciliation, we receive God's forgiveness and peace. 7. God is always ready to forgive us. 8. It is important to forgive others. 9. We can thank God for his forgiveness and love.l 10. Rainbow Fish is a story about a selfish fish that learns to share with others. Chapter 20 Lent 1. Lent is a time we celebrate Jesus' death and Resurrection. 2. We remember our Baptism during Lent. 3. In Baptism, we first receive grace, the gift of God's life. 4. Praying the Sign of the Cross reminds us of Baptism. 5. During Lent we try to grow closer to Jesus by following His example. 6. We help people who are sick, hungry, and lonely. 7. The Lord calls us to days of quiet time, prayer, and kind acts. 8. We trust in God's love and forgiveness. 9. Our Father is the prayer Jesus taught us. 10. I thank Jesus for sharing his life with me.
Chapter 22 Jesus Gives Us the Eucharist 1. On the night before he died, Jesus was with his followers in Jerusalem. 2. The last meal Jesus shared with his followers before he died is called- Last Supper. 3. The bread and wine became the Body and Blood of Jesus at the Last Supper. 4. The Church remembers what Jesus said and did at the Last Supper when we celebrate the Eucharist. 5. The word eucharist means "to give thanks." 6. The Mass is another name for the celebration of the Eucharist. 7. Sunday is the Lord's Day because Jesus rose to new life on Sunday. 8. The priest leads us in the celcbration of the Mass. 9. When we celcbrate the Eucharist, we thank God for His many gifts. 10. We gather as a parish to celcbrate Mass every Sunday. Chapter 23 We Celebrate the Mass 1. The most important time that our parish comes together is for Sunday Mass. 2. We praise God by singing or praying, "Glory to God." 3. The Bible is the book of God's word. 4. The first reading is about God's people who lived before Jesus Christ was born. 5. The gospel reading is about Jesus Christ and his teachings. 6. The gospel means the "good news of Jesus Christ." 7. The altar is the table of the Lord where we celebrate the Eucharist. 8. At Mass the priest invites us to share in the Eucharist. 9. When we pray "Amen," we are saying, "Yes, I believe." 10. Gifts of bread and wine are brought to the altar. Chapter 24 We Share in God's Love 1. Jesus showed us how to love and serve God and others. 2. Praying is listening to and talking to God. 3. Jesus taught us to pray to the Blessed Trinity. 4. We can pray by ourselves, with our families, with our friends, and with our parish. 5. We grow closer to God when we pray. 6. We share God's love with our families whnen we forgive one another. 7. God made us to shre his love with everyone. 8. Parish priests serve God and others by visiting sick people, celebrating sacraments, and teaching about the Bible. Chapter 25 We Honor Mary and the Saints 1. God chose Mary to be the mother of his own son, Jesus. 2. Mary watched Jesus teach and heal the sick. 3. When we honor people, we show them how special they are to us. 4. We sometimes call Mary "The Blessed Mother" to show our love. 5. Mary is the Mother of the Church. 6. We celcbrate feast days to remember special times in the life of Mary and Jesus. 7. A special prayer to show honor is the Hail Mary. 9. Saints are followers of Jesus who have died and now live forever with God. 9. The Church honors the Saints with a feast called All Saints on November 1. 10. St. Anne was the mother of Mary and the grandmother of Jesus. Chapter 26 We Care for the Gifts of God's Creation 1. The world is God's gift to us. 2. God asks us to take care of and watch over his creation. 3. All of us are important to God. 4. God wants us to use our talents to care for others. 5. God has given us all the creation to use and enjoy. 6. Animals are part of God's creation. 7. All God's people have different gifts and talents. 8. We should show kindness and respect for one another. 9. Be polite and say 'please' and 'thank you'. 10.Respect othr people's belongings. Do not take anything without asking. 11. Tell the truth. Do not tell lies. 12. Say 'I'm sorry' and ask for forgiveness if we have done something wrong. 13. Forgive others when they tell us they are sorry. Chapter 27 Easter 1. Christ has died. Christ has risen. Christ will come again. 2. Three Days leads us to Easter. 3. We sing Alleluia and give praise to risen Jesus. 4. St. Matthew tells us the story about Jesus' rising from the dead on Easter Sunday morning. 5. The angel told Mary Magdalene at the tomb not to be afraid and that other followers would see Jesus sonn. 6. Everyone in your family has gifts and talents. 7. This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad. 8. During Easter we celebrate that Jsus rose to new life. |
