The Question and Answer Flow

1. The Question and Answer Flow uses questions and answers

    to identify the parts of a sentence.

2. Classifying is naming and labeling each word in a sentence

    to identify its job.

3. To classify a subject noun, ask a subject question.

    The subject questions are who or what.

    Ask who if the sentence is about people.

    Ask what if the sentence is about animals, places or things .

    Then, label the subject noun with SN.

4. To classify a verb, ask the verb question what is being said about

    (the subject). The verb tells what the subject does.

    Then, label the verb with V.

The Sentence Jingle

A sentence, sentence, sentence

Is complete complete, complete

When five simple rules

It meets, meets, meets.

It has a subject, subject, subject

And a verb, verb, verb.

And it makes sense, sense, sense

With every word, word, word.

Add a capital letter

And a punctuation mark.

And now our sentence has all its parts!

But REMEMBER--

Subject and verb and complete sense,

With a capital letter and an end mark, too.

Our sentence is complete,

And now we're through!

The Noun Jingle

This little noun,

Floating around.

Names a person, place, or thing.

With a knickknack, paddywhack,

These are English rules.

The Verb Jingle

A verb shows action;

There is no doubt!

It tells what the subject does,

Like sing and shout!

An adverb modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb.

An adverb asks, "HOW? WHEN WHERE?"

To find an adverb: GO! (snap) Ask! (snap) Get! (snap)

But where do I go? To a verb, adjective, or another adverb.

What do I ask? HOW? WHEN? WHERE?

What do I get? An adverb, man. Cool!

An adjective modifies a noun or a pronoun.

An adjective asks, "WHAT KIND?"

An adjective asks, "WHICH ONE?"

An adjective asks, "HOW MANY?"

To identify an adjective:
