Syllabus 2007-2008

Glencoe Literature – The Reader’s Choice course 1
SPELLING POWER-Every week
AR- Each student will receive their own personalized goal
4 to 5 class novels throughout the year

1st Quarter: 
Theme – “Where I Belong”
Genre focus – autobiography

Theme – “Through Other Eyes”
Genre focus – poetry

2nd Quarter
Theme – “Growing Times”
Genre focus – biography

Theme – “What’s Most Important”
Genre focus – fiction

Third Quarter
Theme – “The Will To Win”
Genre focus – folktale

Theme – “Getting Through Hard Times”
Genre focus – expository non-fiction

4th Quarter
Theme – “Old Tales, New Twists
Genre focus – drama

Theme – “To Strange Places”
Genre focus – science fiction


All reading selections will have corresponding assignments such as quick-
check class work to check for comprehension, complete sentence answers to 
questions about selections and essays for personal reflection.  
 
Homework will be checked periodically for completion and accuracy, 
unannounced, for points.  

Students will keep a writing portfolio and will periodically receive a grade 
on writing assignments.  
Students are also responsible for a "project" with each theme.
Due dates are posted on my board and website.
Due dates for AR tests will be announced at the beginning of the quarter and 
posted on the homework board and website.
