Glencoe Literature Course 2
Spelling Power
Accelerated Reader- Each student will have a personalized point goal
4 to 5 novels throughout the year
1st Quarter
Theme – “What I am, What I Want To Be”
Genre focus – autobiography
Theme – “Winds of Change”
Genre focus – fiction
2nd Quarter
Theme – “Facing Challenge”
Genre focus – non fiction
Theme – “Where The Heart Is”
Genre focus – essay
Third Quarter
Theme – “At The Crossroads”
Genre focus – drama
Theme – “Twists And Turns”
Genre focus – poetry
4th Quarter
Theme – “A Different Dimension”
Genre focus – legends, myths and folklore
Theme – “A Delicate Balance”
Genre focus – short forms of poetry
All reading selections will have corresponding assignments such as quick-
check class work to check for comprehension, complete sentence answers to
questions about selections and essays for personal reflection.
Homework will be checked periodically for completion and accuracy,
unannounced, for points.
Students will keep a writing portfolio and will periodically receive a grade
on writing assignments.
Students are also responsible for a "project" with each theme.
Due dates are posted on my board and website.
Due dates for AR tests will be announced at the beginning of the quarter and
posted on the homework board and website.
