Saint of the Week: Aaron Hollier

Mr. Hollier,
Your duty as Saint of the Week is to pray for your classmates, your school,
and their intentions, as well as the intentions of the Holy Father. Your
special intention this week is for three missing persons. Aaron Anderson
was last seen on April 7, 1989 playing in his Minnesota yard. Aaron Stepp
was last seen in his neighbors Ohio backyard on March 11, 1997. Aaron
Rogers ran away from his Maryland home on February 23, 2006 and is listed as
endangered. Please pray for the safe return of these individuals and for
the comfort and consolation of them and their families. Also, pray for the
abductors: that their hearts be heavy and thus turned because
of their guilt and may they come forward with information on these missing
people. Please pray for all runaways. That they may have a renewed faith in
the love of their parents and return home.

Sixth grade,
Your job is to pray for Mr. Hollier this week and all of his intentions.
Pray that he lives a life of faith, hope, charity, love, and is worthy of
sainthood.

PARENTS:

HERE ARE A NUMBER OF SIMPLE WAYS TO PROMOTE VOCATIONS TO THE PRIESTHOOD AND
RELIGIOUS LIFE:

1. SPEAK POSITIVELY about Priests, Sisters, and Brothers.

2. ENCOURAGE AND INVITE your children to consider a church vocation.

3. PRAY whenever the opportunity is presented (Before meals or a designated
time together.)

4. SCRIPTURE Read and pray stories from the Bible. Make the Bible
available to everyone and create a dignified space for it in your home.

5. SUPPORT YOUTH MINISTRY Encourage your children to attend youth
activities in the parish and in the diocese.

6. TALK ABOUT VOCATIONS Speak to your children about what vocations are
and how they are lived out today.

7. BE OPEN TO ALL VOCATIONS Offer the vocation to priesthood and
consecrated life to your children as a viable lifestyle that is worthwhile
living.

8. TEACH BY EXAMPLE Whatever you do in your parish to contribute to the
community will be a great model to your children.

9. INVITE A PRIEST OR RELIGIOUS TO DINNER AT YOUR HOME.

VOCATIONS ARE A LIFE LONG DECISION AND COMMITMENT AND EACH PERSON NEEDS THE
SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE OF OTHERS. TAKE TIME TO PRAY, INVITE, ENCOURAGE, AND
TO NURTURE VOCATIONS IN YOUR HOME AND IN THE CHURCH.

7th Grade Religion
Ms. Louvierre

This year’s theme focuses on Jesus. We look back at His life, teachings,
and
values, and the student’s come away with a deeper understanding of Him and
how he relates to their daily lives today. Throughout the year, the
student’s will be encouraged to take a deeper look at themselves and to
evaluate their own “Christianity”. The following are 4 of the unit topics
that we will be studying in our 7th grade text, This is Our Faith:
       Learning to trust;
       Learning to care;
Overcoming temptation, peer pressure, and making a moral choice; and
How it is, that the essence of our faith, gives us Hope for our lives.

It is my goal, as their teacher, that they would develop a deeper
relationship with Our Lord, through the variety of methods I will be using
such as: music, games, meditation, study of the Scriptures, learning of
prayers, lessons from our text, and lively discussions. This school year, I
plan to give them the opportunity to serve as Christ, by involving them in
projects with younger students at St. Joseph. Also, in the next few weeks,
our students will be attending a day long retreat with St. Joseph Parish
Youth Minister, Mr. Tony Rizzo, at the Family Life Center.

Student’s grades for my class will come from:
1)	Prayerfully meditating on and journaling about the scriptures of the
week’s school mass readings.
2)	Quizzes on memorization of Bible verses
3) Tests on Prayers
4) Tests on information in each chapter of their text
5) Projects
6) Class Participation
7) Effort put forth in their text activities

This year we will be celebrating all birthdays in Religion class. Feel free
to send a birthday treat with your child to share. Each student will
be “honored” by their classmates during their birthday week, or in the case
of summer birthdays, during some week within the school year.

THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR “GIFTS FROM GOD” WITH ALL OF US HERE AT ST.
JOSEPH!! THEY ARE PRECIOUS!!

8th Grade Religion
Ms. Louvierre

This year’s theme focuses on the Church. The first 2 units of our text,
This
is Our Faith, will take a look back at the history of the Catholic Church to
understand our heritage and to see the changes and reforms the Church had to
go through. In the last 3 units, the students will come to understand what
it truly means to be Catholic by studying how we worship, how we pray, forms
of Catholic art, the sacraments, the basic beliefs of the Church, and how we
are to live out our faith. Throughout the year, the student’s will be
encouraged to take a deeper look at theirselves and to evaluate their
own “Christianity”.

8th Grade Religion is traditionally an eventful year! This year the 8th
graders have already begun by participating in most of the school masses.
Here’s a list of some of the highlights of our year:
1) At the end of September, the students will gather with other 8th graders
from the area for a “Vocation Mingle Day” at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.
 2) There are plans in the working for a big brother/ big sister type
program
for the 8th graders with this year’s K5 classes.
 3) A talk will be given about the Rosary and students will be making
knotted-
string rosaries to be sent out to a mission site or charity.
4) A Guest speaker on the topic of Pro-Life will visit us in February.
5) Separate retreats for the boys and the girls will be given by St. Joseph
Parish Youth Minister, Tony Rizzo.
6) A field trip to visit St. John’s Cathedral is also on the agenda.
7) Many other things related to the 8th grade graduation ceremony are done
in
Religion class.

It is my goal, as their Religion teacher, that they would develop a deeper
relationship with Our Lord, through the variety of methods I will be using
such as: music, games, meditation, study of the Scriptures, learning of
prayers, lessons from our text, and lively discussions.
