Talented Art Students ART EXHIBIT AT MANDEVILLE CITY HALL FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH MANDEVILLE JUNIOR HIGH 8th grade students will exhibit Self-Portraits in either watercolor, scratchboard or acrylic paint. 7th grade students will exhibit either color pen and ink compositions, graphie sketches or scratchboard renderings. PONCHARTRAIN ELEMENTARY Students will exhibit acrylic paintings of an insect that they invented by combining parts of 3 insects. MANDEVILLE ELEMENTARY I had planned on having all of my Talented Art students’ work in the exhibition at Mandeville City Hall. The work was delivered to them around 1 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. I had understood that the person who was to hang the show would do so that afternoon. However, that person phoned me about 5 p.m. yesterday to tell me that she had just finished hanging the show. Try as she may, she didn’t have enough room to hang the paintings of the students from Mandeville Elementary. In addition, because the paintings sat stacked city hall for 2 days, they were sticking together. The gloss/varnish seal had been applied by the students over a month ago and allowed to dry without any stacking. Because of the weight of the stack, the duration of being stacked and the probable heat in the city hall building, the paper backing on the canvas panels stuck to the varnish on the painting beneath it. I am so disappointed for the students. However, I will see what I can do to remedy the problem…Soon, the students’ accordion picture story books about the insects that they created and painted on the afore mentioned canvas will be ready to display in the library at MES. I will ask the librarian about displaying the paintings in the library as well. PATRIOTS ON PARADE will take place the evening of April 26. Mandeville Junior High student work will be displayed in the library, in the glass cases and on the bulletin board across from the library, in Room 101 and in the 100 Hall across from Room 101. Students spinning and rocking sculptures will perform at 8 p.m. in Room 101. ART CLUB Members are completing their clay "spinning bowls". They will also work on composition and shading techniques. The meeting dates for the remainder of this school year are: Feb.28. March 13 and 27, April 10 and 24, and May 8.
