4th Grade Overview
November 16th - 20th, 2009
|
Mrs. Roark:
Reading: More on comprehension strategies used for reading nonfiction selections. I will give a reading grade on an in-class activity. Reading logs are graded every Friday based simply on if your child has read & written it down on the log for the week. Many students are not using the daily time in class to read & take quizzes.
Language: We will study nouns and how to select the subject & predicate of a sentence. Test Friday on what we cover in class. See planner for specific skills.
Spelling: 2 syllable words that end with "et." Spelled "et," but sounds like "it." When dividing words into syllables, the digraph "ck" needs to stay together. See the "Spelling Rules" sheet in the binder for more explanations. Words are: rocket ticket helmet locket packet
basket jacket bucket pocket magnet
Mrs. Murzi and Mrs. Alford:
MATH:
This week we will continue with counting, adding, and subtracting with money. Please have your student practice their basic facts at home daily. There are several websites listed on my webpage that can be used for practice and/or flash cards are good to use, too. Students should know their facts within 3 seconds. Calendar math for skills for November will begin.
Tests:
Thursday - Spelling Pretest;
- Math-- quiz
Friday - Math Minute with addition/subtraction facts
- Spelling Final Test
- Language Test
