Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to second grade. This year will be filled with many spiritual and
academic learning activities. Your child will grow spiritually as he/she
will prepare to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.
Second grade will provide you a great opportunity to become involved in
your
child’s spiritual and academic life.

I am looking forward to working with you and your child. Together, we can
make this a happy and successful school year.

                              Homework

Spelling: Each unit consists of 16 words and one bonus word.
		Monday: Write a sentence with words 1 – 8.
Tuesday: Write a sentence with words 9-16.
Wednesday: Put words 1 – 16 in ABC order.
		Thursday: Spelling Test.

Math: Your child will occasionally have a math worksheet to complete. A
timed facts test will be given every Wednesday. A facts sheet will be
placed into their homework folder to study from.

Reading: Worksheets will be assigned throughout the week which will review
skills and comprehension to prepare for the test. Reading test will be
given
on Fridays.

Grammar: A worksheet will be given as reinforcement during the week.

Science/Social Studies: These subjects will rotate throughout a nine week
period. Homework will mostly consist of small projects.

Assignments: Your child will copy their own assignment in the morning.
You
are responsible for signing the assignment each day. Test dates will be
posted on the assignment at least a week in advance. Please feel free to
write me notes in the assignment if needed.

                         Discipline and Tests

I firmly believe that life-long success depends on self discipline, so I
will enforce a plan that allows each student to manage his/her own
behavior. If a student breaks a rule, he/she will have to sign the
conduct
book. At the end of the week, the grades will be averaged for a weekly
conduct grade. Each child will receive a sticker book. Stickers are
given
for good behavior, good deeds, positive manners, etc. For every 10
stickers, the child is rewarded.

Every Tuesday a packet containing test papers from the previous week, as
well as a conduct card, will be sent home. Students are to make
corrections
on the test and parents are to sign the conduct card. The packets must be
returned by Thursday.

                           ARP

Students will have to read books or articles and take ARP tests. Each nine
weeks, ARP will count for one test grade, depending on the amount of
points earned:
                3 or more points - 100A
                2.5 - 2.9 points - 93B
                2.0 -2.4 points - 85C
                 .5 -1.4 points - 77D
                  0 points - 69U

                              Book Reports

There will be a total of four book reports for the school year. The
following are tentative dates:
			September 8th March 9th
			December 1st May 11th

The children will present their book reports orally, a visual project will
need to accompany the reports, and a rubric will be sent home at a later
date. Creativity is highly encouraged.

                           Books and Supplies

All hardcover books must be covered with either a book sox or paper.
Please
do not use contact paper on hardcover books! All books need to be covered
by
Monday, August 14th. The students will have 3 hardcover books. Please
label
dividers in binders with the following subjects: Spelling, Math, Reading,
Science, Social Studies, English, and Religion.

Supply lists were distributed last year or when you registered your child
for
school. Please send all supplies to school on Tuesday August 8, if you did
not bring them today. I will go through the supplies the first week of
school
and let you know if your child is missing any of the needed supplies.
Please
organize your child's binder by labeling the dividers with each subject so
it
is ready for the first day of school.

                          Scholastic Book Orders

Please make checks payable to Scholastic or use cash for
these book orders.

Thank you, and I am excited to be your child’s teacher. You and your
families are in my prayers. If you have any questions, feel free to
contact
me here at school at (504) 271-2953.

Sincerely,

Karen Braquet-Sandrock
