7th Grade Math: February 1-5, 2010
We will continue our study on fractions. Previously, we have covered improper
fractions, mixed numbers, equivalent fractions, and we added and subtracted
fractions with both like and different denominators, and we also incorporated
mixed numbers. Students also learned how to multiply fractions and mixed
numbers. We will wrap up fractions this week by learning how to divide
fractions. THERE WILL BE A TEST FRIDAY, JANUARY 5, 2010 on the Fraction Unit.
We will be reviewing all week. The students will have review worksheets that
can be used to help them study.

8th Grade Math: February 1-5, 2010
This week we will be focusing on Finance Park.

The 8th grade students will be working on two units simultaneously. One
unit will be geometry based, and focus on discovering various conjectures and
geometric formulas.

The students will be given a formula sheet that they will have access to
during the LEAP test, and we will be making a geometry folder to keep the
unit organized. The students will be able to take this folder home with them
as a review for the LEAP test.

The other unit is called “JA’s Finance Park.” Finance Park work will be done
sporadically until March. Students will focus on learning about personal
finances, and living in the “real world.” This unit will end with a trip
through a financial simulation where the students will be given a specific
life and income, and they will have to make a budget and choose how and where
to spend their money.

7th Grade Social Studies: February 1-5, 2010
The unit focuses on the development and growth of the colonies, the spirit
of independence, and the movement towards war with England. This week we will
be discussing the life and economy of the New England Colonies, the Middle
Colonies, and the Southern Colonies, and the beginning of the many conflicts
that leads to the Revolutionary War. The class will go over different types
of governments being used in the various colonies, the religions in colonies,
the idea of freedom of religion, and the various cultures present in
the colonies. We will begin to talk about the tensions between France and
Britain that eventually led to The French and Indian War. THERE WILL BE A
CHAPTER FOUR TEST ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2010.
