Horse in the House
Ben M.Baglio

This is one of my favorite titles in the Animal Ark series! Mandy and James
investigate reports that a campsite where riding stables once stood is
haunted by a ghostly horse and rider. If you love animals and ghost stories,
this is the right combination for you!

Jeanne Birdsall

While vacationing with their widowed father in the Berkshire Mountains, four
lovable sisters, ages four through twelve, share adventures with a local
boy, much to the dismay of his snobbish mother. A great family story.

Stonewords : a Ghost Story
Pam Conrad
Zoe discovers that her house is occupied by the ghost of an eleven-year-old
girl, who carries her back to the day of her death in 1870 to try to alter
that tragic event. Very suspenseful. A real page turner!

Zoe Rising
Pam Conrad.

Zoe, traveling back to the time when her mother was a child, intervenes in
the past in order to save the future. This is the sequel to Stonewords. A
good one, too.

Because of Winn Dixie
Kate DiCamillo

Ten-year-old India Opal Buloni describes her first summer in the town of
Naomi, Florida, and all the good things that happen to her because of her
big ugly dog Winn-Dixie. Dog lovers, you are in for a treat!

The tale of Despereaux : being the story of a mouse, a princess, some soup,
and a spool of thread
Kate DiCamillo

The adventures of Despereaux Tilling, a small mouse of unusual talents, the
princess that he loves, the servant girl who longs to be a princess, and a
devious rat determined to bring them all to ruin. Possibly the best mouse
story I have ever read and I love to read stories with mice as the
characters! He is a true hero.

The Music of Dolphins

been raised by dolphins, records her thoughts about her reintroduction to

but Sable, named for her dark, silky fur, causes trouble with the neighbors

Just Juice
Karen Hesse

year-old Juice decides that she must return to school and learn to read in
order to help their chances of surviving and keeping their house.
ALL THE KAREN HESSE BOOKS ARE THE BEST!

I read this book because I just had to find out how the main character could
have 500 middle names! Janie's mom and dad don't have a lot of money but
they move to a new neighborhood so she can go to a much better school. The
problem is the students are rich and Janie has a hard time fitting in and
making new friends. Her mom knits beautiful sweaters to sell to make extra
money. These sweaters are your clue to why Janie has 500 middle names! This
is a story about family and friendship and Janie is a character to admire!

Everything on a Waffle
Polly Horvath.

Eleven-year-old Primrose, who lives in a small fishing village in British
Columbia, recounts her experiences and all that she learns about human
nature and the unpredictability of life in the months after her parents are
lost at sea. She is the only one who believes her parents are still alive.
Are they? Read it to find out. AND there is a great recipe at the end of
each chapter to try!

The Charm Bracelet

This is the first book in the Fairy Realm series. Wouldn't it be cool to
discover your grandmother is really a fairy? That what happens to Jessie
when she visits her grandmother in the country. Jessie is worried about her
grandmother because she has become very forgetful since losing the charm
bracelet she ALWAYS wore. Then one night Jessies hears voices that call her
to a door in the garden that leads to a magical Fairy Realm! She finds out
that her grandmother is really a fairy princess who left the Fairy Realm a
long time ago to marry a human. She promised to return to renew the Fairy
Realm's magic but without the charm bracelet she doesn't remember her fairy
life. The Fairy Realm is in danger of being taken over by the evil Valda. It
is up to Jessie to save this magical place!

Sachar, Louis
This is Louis Sachar's award winning book. And a fabulous book it is!
Stanley Yelnats' family has been cursed by a gypsy many generations ago.
Now, bad luck seems to befall the Yelnats' wherever they go. The main
character, Stanley, is not different. Bad Luck struck him as well and he
ended up in Camp Green Lake, a boy's detention center, where everyday he had
to dig a hole in the bed of a dried up lake. Stanley soon discovers that
there is more than character building going on at the camp. Stanley
uncovers the truth and with it he seemingly removes the curse that plagued
his family for generations. This is a humorous and touching tale of
courage, character and redemption. I am thrilled to have read such a
delight.

Holy Enchilada!

This the sixth book in the Hank Zipper, the World's Greatest Underachiever
series. You don't have to read them in order!
Hank is in fourth grade and he has dyslexia which makes school work and
especially reading difficult for him. In fact he gets in some hilarious
trouble because he can't read very well! A fourth grader from Japan comes
for a visit and stays at Hank's house. Multi-cultural day is coming up and
Hank and his friends make Mexican enchilada's. Hank thinks he
MAY have read the recipe wrong and put in too much hot chili pepper but he
doesn't want Yoshi to know he has dyslexia, so he doesn't say anything!
You'll have to read the book to find out what happens when the enchiladas
are "tasted" at the multi-cultural day luncheon! Hank shares his recipe for
zingy (but not too zingy) one-of-a-kind killer enchiladas in the last
chapter.

Some of the Kinder Planets : Stories
Tim Wynne-Jones.
A collection of nine stories by the popular Canadian author. All of them are
about kids just like you. My favorite is the first one, The Night of the
Pomegranate
