Mrs. Branch's Monday Mail

December 2, 2009 – Day #1

Dear Families,

It has been a long stretch of holidays and I hope filled with days of joyfulness for you.

As we enter December we work to live the virtues of this month. Kindness, caring, empathy.

It reminds me that we all try to live by a saying here at school that is simple and profoundly important to the well-being of people.  It goes:  Is it kind, is it true, is it necessary. If we could all follow these simple words, what a difference the world would be.

Related to kindness, the elementary school is accomplishing an “act of kindness” these first 2 weeks of December. We call it the CARE/SHARE Project – where each student is asked to bring a specific item to school.  Your child’s classroom has been assigned just one type of food item. The cost of the food item is designated so that the items will not vary in value.  So please, be exact as you shop and contribute.  A letter will come tomorrow designating the item your child is to bring by Wednesday, December 9.

On Friday, December 11, we will be meeting in our student circle groups.  Each student will take the food item he or she brought to school with them to circles, where the activity will be to wrap all the items into one gift and to write cards of thank you to be placed in the gift.  There are 52 circles, so there will be 52 gifts prepared.  Following the circle meeting, the school will gather in the auditorium with the gifts to be publicly given to our 52 workers who care for us daily in hundreds of ways. With this act of giving, we are practicing the spirit of generosity, caring and regard.  Kindest regards to all of you.

Kindly yours,

Geri Branch

Announcements:

ACTIVITIES – 2nd Term begins today, Wednesday, Dec. 02

KICKBALL help requested.  The kickball activity is great fun and has many students participating.  I really need a second adult who can come at 3:20 each Thursday.  Please let me know if you can be that adult.

HOLIDAY ILLNESS – We would like to know of feverish flu over this holiday, even if your child has returned to school today.  Knowing helps us keep track of the number of children affected by some type of flu bug.
