Do the children have homework every night?

Yes! Homework takes different forms. It does not have to be a written page.
For example, every child should read or be read to every night. Math games or
suggestions for activities are sent home as part of the math program. Play
the games with the children

What is the best way to get in touch with Mrs. J.?

If there is an "emergency" or something that I must know at the beginning of
the school day, please stop by and see me before school. Otherwise, you can
call me at school, send a note or send an e-mail.

Should I help my child with her/his homework?

Sure. Ask her/him to read the directions or tell them to you. You also might
read them to your child and then have the child repeat them in her/his own
words. Also remember to have the word wall as well as the handwriting card in
a place where your child can see them and use them.

What is a good bedtime?

In my opinion, 8:00P.M. is the latest that most first graders should be going
to bed. It may vary a bit for some of the children. It is always a good idea
to listen to soft music and/or read a book for a little while.
(YES! I know that there may be occasional 'special' reasons why the children
stay up later.)
