Rubric for Journal

5 points:  Thorough notes taken on research gathered from the various 
websites located within the webquest; journal is legible; guiding question(s) 
are answered and analyzed throughout the journal in note form.
3 points:  Notes do not reflect time was well-spent on journal; some evidence 
collected which answers guiding question(s).
2 – 1 points:  Journal poorly completed; students rushed through the websites 
and missed integral information to complete assignment.
0 points:  Never passed in.

Rubric for Essay

5 points:  Essay answers guiding questions by using evidence gathered in 
journals; 5 – 7 paragraphs long; spelling and grammar were checked and 
corrected; completed in final draft format (typed—12 font; Times New Roman, 
Arial, or Tahoma; cursive—normal blue or black ink; double spaced); passed in 
on time.
4 – 1 points:  Essay answers few to none of the guiding questions; less than 
5 paragraphs long; spelling and grammar not checked and corrected; wrong font 
size or font; wrong ink, single spaced; passed in on time.
0 points:  Never passed in.

Rubric for Advertisement—Visual Element

5 points:  Visually interesting to look at; pictures included; colorful; 
highlights the important points of webquest research; connected to content of 
presentation; shows a plan was used in completing it; passed in on time.
4 – 1 points:  Not-so-visually interesting; hardly any pictures; black-and-
white; barely highlights webquest research; little to no connection to 
presentation; has done-at-the-last-minute-look to it; passed in on time.
0 points:  Never passed in.

Rubric for Advertisement—Oral Element

5 points:  Advertisement was clearly, loudly spoken; eye contact made; major 
points of research/essay presented; did not go over 5 minutes more than 20 
seconds; did not go under 5 minutes more than 20 seconds; advertisement was 
clearly selling a product based on research/essay; caught the audience’s 
attention through one of the designated ways; visual was used; advertisement 
done on assigned date.
4 – 3 points:  presentation was somewhat clearly, loudly spoken; some eye 
contact made; some major points of report touched upon; used poster; caught 
the audience’s attention through one of the designated ways; went more than 
20 seconds over or under; advertisement done on assigned date.
2 – 1 points:  poorly spoken; no eye contact; hardly any points discussed; 
forgot poster; somewhat caught the audience’s attention through one of the 
designated ways; less than 3 minutes long or over 6 minutes long; 
advertisement done on assigned date.
0 points:  Advertisement never presented.
