In November, we will learn about the first Thanksgiving. We will create
a ven diagram to compare and contrast the first Thanksgiving to how we
celebrate today. We will make a chart and complete a writing activity of
things we are thankful for. We will look at the various traditions children
in our class have for Thanksgiving. The children will make thankful wreaths,
turkey puppets, and pattern block turkeys. We will sing the Thank You song
and Hello, Mr. Turkey.
Our literacy focus continues to be on concepts of print, letter/sound
association, and rhyming. The letters that we are focusing on this month are
s, t, f, and a. We will read books by Tomie DePaola such as Strega Nona and
Strega Nona Meets her Match. Remember to read the poem book with your child
often.
In math, we will continue to work on sorting and numeral
identification. We will tie math and literature by reading The Lost Button
in Frog and Toad Are Friends by Arnold Lobel. Children will then sort
buttons and examine the different attributes. They will even have a button
factory and sort their own handmade buttons.
