How is my class graded?

A students grade depends on his/her best effort in my class foremost. A
students understanding of the subject matter is assessed through many forms of
assessment; labs, homework, tests and quizzes, oral responses, journal entries
etc... You can see the weights of each form of assessment in the syllabus
(green packet) that was handed out at the beginning of the year.

How often is homework assigned?

I will typically only assign 1 - 2 assignments every week.

Why is all homework not collected?

Often I will check over and review homework in class with students. This keeps
the work in the correct place (their binder) and decreases the paper trail for
myself. Homework is a very important part of my class since there is so little
and because it is directly applicable to the subject matter discussed in class.

What do I do if I miss a day of school?

Students have their own responsibility to find any missed work in the "while
you were out" folder in my classroom. Students that have missed a day are
given the same amount of time to complete the work. All completed work should
be placed in the appropriate folder in the "Nice to see you are back" bin
located in the classroom.

What if I miss some homework?

Students are REQUIRED to complete all of their homework, even if it is late.
Any students that miss three assignments will be issued a 1 1/2 hour detention
with myself.

Why do I have to get my quiz signed if it below a 70% ?

Students need to have their quizzes/tests signed if they are a 69 or less
because I want parents/guardians to be aware of how students are doing on
their formative assessments.

How do I know what homework I have to do?

All homework is scheduled a week in advance and students are given a weekly
schedule on the first day of the week. If a student misses the weekly
schedule, it will be both in the "while you were out" bin and can be
downloaded from the "Documents" menu on my website.
