HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

A lot of work is done in class. This way they are closely supervised and
monitored for accuracy.

1. Pride and Spirit Bulletin Board

Please bring in a picture of yourself doing something you enjoy or a picture
of someone or something you love. Explain briefly what the picture is
about on an index card. We will share these in class and place them on the
bulletin board for all your classmates to enjoy. (This is a homework
assigment. Pictures will be taken next week only!!)

2. Three ring binder for class or notebook and folder. Papers will be
handed out and putting them in an organized area makes them easier to locate!

3. ***Read! Parent reading slip should be signed each night. Slip should be
turned in for a grade on Mondays. It will also be accepted on a Tuesday, but
no later than those two days. Students are required to read two books per
term. (There will be no slip assigned over the Thanksgiving break.)

4. A new spelling list has been passed out. Review words. Quiz will
be Tuesday, Dec. 1. We have completed the fifty most commonly spelled words
for middle schoolers and we are starting to tackle a list of 100 words sixth
graders should know. These are more difficult.

6. We will be reading the story "Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros. We will be
writing a short piece on a memory in our lives. This will be due for editing
Wednesday, Dec. 2. A rubric has been sent home. Work has been done in class
and will be modeled. Final copies must be signed by a parent. Final copy
will be due Thursday, Dec. 3.

7. Review conjunctions and interjections. We will be working on prepositions
after the Thanksgiving break.

Literacy (Reading and Writing Notebook)

Myths will begin this week week. We are talking about the Greek gods and
goddesses and their beginnings. We have begun the story "Arachne" in class
and will be anaylzing the characters and conflict. An open response will be
given today. We will be reading the myth "Orpheus." I am also reading The
Lightning Thief to them in class.
