Homework

Monday, Dec. 14

A lot of work is done in class. This way they are closely supervised and
monitored for accuracy.

1. Pride and Spirit Bulletin Board

Please bring in a picture of yourself doing something you enjoy or a picture
of someone or something you love. Explain briefly what the picture is
about on an index card. We will share these in class and place them on the
bulletin board for all your classmates to enjoy. (This is a homework
assigment. Pictures will be taken next week only!!)

2. Three ring binder for class or notebook and folder. Papers will be
handed out and putting them in an organized area makes them easier to locate!

3. ***Read! Parent reading slip should be signed each night. Slip should be
turned in for a grade on Mondays. It will also be accepted on a Tuesday, but
no later than those two days. Students are required to read two books per
term.

4. A new spelling list has been passed out. Study words 9 & 10. Review the
other words. Quiz will be tomorrow, Tuesday, Dec. 15. We have completed the
fifty most commonly spelled words for middle schoolers and we are starting to
tackle a list of 100 words sixth graders should know. These are more
difficult.
**I may do a spot check on these words at any time.

6. We have begun reading the novel Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit. We
are concentrating on foreshadowing, character traits, inferences and point of
view. There will tests, quizzes and open responses on material read.

7. We have begun working on prepositions. Some know a song to recall them.
We are learning hand signals to learn the B's and will need to know these
by Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Literacy (Reading and Writing Notebook)

Myths have begun! We are talking about the Greek gods and
goddesses and their beginnings. We have finished the story "Arachne" in
class. "Orpheus" has also been completed. "Icarus and Daedalus" has been
completed. Students have read "Pandora." Today we will read "The Face in
the Pool," the story of Narcissus. We will be analyzing these myths
in groups and grades will be given. I am also reading The Lightning Thief
to them in class.
