About The Teacher

NAME: Mrs. Powers

SCHOOL: Central Tree Middle School

CLASS: 6th and 7th Grade Language Arts

SCHOOL PHONE: (508)886-0073

My name is Mrs. Powers, and I teach language arts to sixth and
seventh graders at Central Tree Middle School. This is my fourth year
teaching here at Central Tree. I've come to truly love teaching middle
school!
Although my start at Central Tree in the fall of 2006 was my first
position after having taken a few years off to be at home with my children,
it was by no means the starting point of my career. I taught for 13 or so
years in total at other schools in other places (primarily in Eagan,MN,
Apple Valley, MN and Harvard,MA) prior to working here in Rutland. I am
certified as both an elementary teacher and a middle school language arts
teacher. I am passionate about the things I teach - both reading and
writing, and am constantly contemplating ways to help the students deepen
their appreciation and enjoyment of them as well.
In addition to the things I do that directly relate to my teaching, I
also like many different kinds of sports (softball, swimming, basketball, and
various watersports) and play several different musical instruments (guitar,
piano, french horn, recorder, and voice). I enjoy and appreciate art and
believe wholeheartedly in the value of creative expression (drama, music,
art, writing, etc.). I see academic learning as a very important element to
an individual's growth and success, but I also put great value on learning
that takes place through other channels as well.
I am very excited to be going into my fourth year as part of the
Central Tree staff. I look forward to getting to know many new students and
having a great year!

Our Work Together

Dear Students,
My job this year will be to lead you on a journey to become better
readers and writers. I will equip you with the necessary tools (many
opportunities and options for reading and writing) and guide you in
navigating your way (by helping you to learn the necessary skills). Your
job is to do the walking, take ownership for your journey, and find pride in
where you end up. There will be some choices in the paths you take, and many
different ways to get there. My hope is that you will consider your choices
carefully and find a path that fits and motivates you. If you do, I think
you will find both the journey and the end result rewarding.

                                         :) Mrs. P :)

Dear Parents,
Although many of the daily responsibilities that impact your child's
learning will be carried out by teacher and student here at school on a
daily basis, I believe wholeheartedly that your child will get the most out
of his or her year in my class if we (parent, teacher, and child) can all
work as a team. Please know that I will be working very hard to provide
assignments and experiences for your child that will help to develop both
his/her skills in and appreciation for reading and writing. If at any time
you are unclear about an assignment or procedure, or you see something in
your child that is concerning that you think I should know about, PLEASE
feel free to contact me. Through mutual respect and open communication, I
hope we can be an effective team of advocates for your child's learning.

Thank you in advance for your help!
