Thank you

Thanks to all parents who recently donated colored copy paper for use in our Math Notebooks.
Learning with color really does make a difference! I would gladly accept additional donations, as we
have already used up almost all of the paper that was sent in last week!

Make-up Test Opportunity

Time is running out to get in your request to make up the Chapter 1 Test. Students who would like to
improve their grades should do their test corrections and write “error statements” for each missed
problem as soon as possible in order to complete all requirements by Monday, November 7 and
schedule the makeup test by the deadline of Wednesday, December 9th. Complete information is
available on the “Request to Make-up a Test” form, which is always available near the entrance to the
classroom (next to the bathroom sign-out log).

An Explanation Regarding Report Card Effort Grades

In general, I have determined report card effort grades as follows:
If you had 3 or 4 missing, late, or incomplete homework assignments (representing a final term
homework grade of 80 or 85) you received a 2 in effort.
If you had more than 4 missing, late, or incomplete homework assignments (representing a final term
homework grade that was below 80) you received a 3 in effort.
Also, as test makeup opportunities were widely promoted and publicized, if you did not take advantage
of these makeup opportunities to improve your low grades, I considered that when determining
your effort grade.

If you would like to improve your effort grade for Term 2, you should be sure to always arrive to Math
class with a complete homework assignment. Also, you should take advantage of making up any test or
quiz for which you earned a grade below 70. Both of these indicate that you are trying your best, even
if Math is not your best or strongest subject!
