Greetings everyone and welcome to another season of EAGLES BASEBALL! Tryouts
are around the corner and will be taking place around mid-March. We will
once again be taking two categories of players this year, Full Squad members
and Practice Squad members. Coach Topo has agreed to help me out once again
as my assistant coach, and I appreciate his contributions.
This year we need to have several fund raisers to help out our sport.
Baseball and Softball are both parent-funded, and as such we will be asking
for help in raising those funds. If you have some ideas or would like to
volunteer, a sheet will go around after tryouts. I will also need some help
on the field, either at practices or games. If there is a parent or two who
can come out and be a volunteer assistant coach, that would be appreciated.
Again, I'll ask after the team has been assembled.
I look forward to a good year this year! Remember, sportsmanship and
dedication are hallmarks of my teams, and I'm sure this year we'll have
another team that other schools have good things to say about.
Good luck to all at this year's tryouts! I'll announce signups by the end of
this week.

CHOCKSETT EAGLE’S BASEBALL and SOFTBALL DODGE BALL TOURNAMENT!
There will be a Dodge Ball tournament this year to fundraise for the 2009
baseball and softball season. It will be open to 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th
graders.
Students interested will sign up with Mr. DeMarco (7th and 8th grade) or Mrs.
Nowd (5th and 6th grade). There will be a $5 per person entry fee, or $30 to
register a team of SIX.
There will be a 5th/6th grade and a 7th/8th grade tournament. Each team of
SIX will play until eliminated. The top two teams from each day will go on
to the playoffs where they will compete until a student team is the winner.
That team will then face the teacher team to determine bragging rights for
the school!
- 5th and 6th grade will play on Tuesday, March 3rd.
- 7th and 8th grade will play on Wednesday, March 4th.
- Playoffs will be on Thursday, March 5th. Winning student teams will play
a faculty team on this day!
- Students may either register a team of six, or sign up individually.
(Rules for signing up teams on back of sheet)
- Games will be played in the Chocksett Middle School gymnasium after school
starting at 3:15pm and going until approximately 5pm.
DODGE BALL RULES
- Each team will have 6 players.
- Each team must have at least 1 boy and 1 girl.
- Players MUST listen to the referees at all times to ensure safety!
Failure to comply could result in dismissal.
- No aiming for the head will be allowed. This will be enforced at the
referee’s discretion.
- Games will be played elimination style until the top two teams are
determined.
- A team is eliminated when all 6 players are “out”. Catch rules to return
players into the game will be in force.
- The top two teams from each day will play for their respective
championships in a playoff. Winning teams may face a faculty team as a
reward for winning!
- If you wish to register a team, bring in all 6 checks to Mr. DeMarco or
Mrs. Nowd with all 6 players listed and an appropriate team name.
- Returning Baseball and Softball players will be helping to run this, and
will be in charge of managing several parts of the tournament. Please listen
to them accordingly. Thank you and we hope everyone has fun!

3/3/09
There will be a SIGNUP meeting in Mr. DeMarco's room at NOON on Wednesday,
March 4th. This will be to sign up if you are interested in trying out for
Baseball this year. If you miss the meeting, make sure you see a classmate
who is signing up for information, then come see me to sign the register.
A few reminders to those who wish to play:
1. School Baseball comes first. If you wish to be on the Chocksett team, you
are expected to be at all practices and games. You will also be played
according to team need over travel team needs. This must be your first
commitment.
2. You MUST have both a current physical on file with our nurse, and a green
card filled in and returned BEFORE you can even try out. You miss tryouts, I
can't evaluate you and you will most likely not make the team. Please make
sure all your forms are in and up to date.
3. I will be looking to take players for both the full team and the practice
squad. Understand if you try out that there are three possible outcomes; You
make the full team, you make the practice squad, or you will be cut.
4. On average I have more than double the amount of students try out than we
can take on a team. That means that more than half will be cut. That is a
possibility. I evaluate with my staff to take the best team possible, and
ensure that every position on the field is filled. All decisions are final.
5. Practice squad members will be required to attend all practices and
games. They are not guaranteed playing time or a uniform, although I do try
to rotate players into some games as the need arises. The purpose is to have
a pool of players to help out the team when they can, including in games.
Practice squad members are also required to pay the $50 athletic fee.
6. If you make the team (including practice squad), there is a $50 athletic
fee made out to WRSD. This fee pays for bus transportation and umpires at
games.
7. You are allowed no more than 3 unexcused absences for the season or action
may be taken, including removal from the team. These include detentions,
failure to make practice or game without a note IN ADVANCE from a parent, or
failure to comply with any other team rules that you signed up for at the
beginning of tryouts. The coach has the final say on these matters.
I look forward to seeing athletes try out this year! Good luck to all, and
GO CHOCKSETT EAGLES!

Thank you to all who made the Dodge Ball Tournament a huge success! The
money raised will be going towards equipment the team needed this year.
Thank you to faculty for helping to run this, the members of the baseball and
softball teams who helped me on game days, the parents that participated or
donated drinks and time, and of course all those who came to play or watch!
Thank you!

Thank you to Mr. Santiago and Mr. Zinkus for agreeing to help me out this
season. That will be a big help this year. Players have recieved their
uniform jerseys and hats already. As soon as our order for the season comes
in I'll distribute pants, belts, and socks to all players. Thank you for
your patience. Remember that all players should wear their baseball jerseys
to school on game days.
I will be collecting orders for baseball t-shirts and sweatpants if students
and parents want them. This is voluntary, and players must pay for their own
outfits in advance, once prices have been determined. I'm hoping to have a
parent take point on this one, I can provide information. Otherwise, we'll
proceed asap. THank you.

The season is almost upon us! On Monday, April 27th we will have a field
day. We will use this practice time to help take care of any last minute
cleanup that is necessary for the field. We ask that students or parents
that are able to come please bring some rakes, trashbags, and anything else
that might be helpful in getting a field ready. I'm hopeing that the first
and third base paths have been fixed by then, but we must be prepared for
anything. Thank you!

I’d like to say thank you to everyone who helped make the 2009 season such a
big success. Thank you to Mr. Topolewski, Mr. Zinkus, and Mr. Santiago for
helping me coach, Billy Horosz-Tetreault for being my manager for two years,
to the parents who helped us at the Dodge Ball tournament and at the games,
and to the players themselves for an outstanding season and continued great
sportsmanship. I am very proud to have been your coach and for the season
you’ve had. We finished 10-2 with our heads held high and great character.
Thank you everyone, and great job!
Remember to turn in your uniforms to Mr. DeMarco by Friday June 12th, and
that the sports banquet is on June 18th! I hope everyone can attend for
pictures and awards!
