Here is a listing of a few of our favorite math apps. All are free or only a dollar or two.
Motion Math
This is the first app we found that takes advantage of the unique features of iPads and other i-products. Students get to have fun as they place fractions on number lines.
Factor Samurai
This app has students doing prime factorizations. Students can get started with just the knowledge of what prime and composite numbers are.
Hungry Fish
The newest app from Motion Math focuses on addition and subtraction relationships. The free version includes an easy level for learning the ropes. For $1.99 you can download the integer level that has students add positive and negative numbers. More levels will be available soon.
Pearl Diver or Lobster Diver
These two apps have the same game with different graphics. Students find objects by moving to the correct place on the number line. The first few problems are easy but there are more challenging problems as they move along.
SymShuffle
Unfortunately, Mr. Carstens often neglects to use mathematical terminology with his games but that is his only fault. Players uses transformations to move through the levels of this game. It’s a good one for developing spatial skills.
