SCIENCE OLYMPIAD: Chocksett's Academic Recognition Ceremony will be held after school (at 3:30pm) on May 9th. Please come and show your support of our academic teams!______________________________________________________________________________**Reminder: Any student earning a 70% or lower on a test or project is required to get it signed by a parent, and return it to class the next class period.5TH GRADE: Classes are finishing up their work on Electric Circuits and Magnetism. They will have a comprehensive exam on Energy the first week in May (see schedule below). The students each have their own notes and study guides (listed below), but they, and the class PowerPoint, are available in the Notes/ Study Guides section, including: - Forms of Energy Graphic Organizer - Electricity PowerPoint - Electricity Vocab sheet - Circuits Worksheet (complete) - Magnets Notes (complete) *** Student should see me for extra help sessions if they have any difficulty with any of the concepts that have presented. Parents should send a note to confirm that their child can stay after school for extra help, and has a ride home.Test Dates:Monday- 5/7 Thursday- 5/3Tuesday- 5/1 Friday- 5/11 ORIGINALLY HAD AN INCORRECT DATE HERE(5/4)**After school study sessions will be announced in class or in homerooms.MCAS Prep Packet: for those classes needing to correct their MCAS packet at home, please see the Notes/ Study Guides section for the corrected packet (named "MCASQues5thBiomimicryDesignToolsCorrected").
6TH GRADE:Students are working in their unit on the Forces of Flight: lift, thrust, drag, and gravity. After completing an in-depth look at these forces, classes will study how engineers use their understanding of these forces to build a rocket. Part of this engineering unit will be for students to use their scientific understanding to design and build aircraft of their own. Students will also be utilizing the Engineering Design process to design and build this vehicle.6th graders should plan to bring in a 1 liter, carbonated beverage bottle (clean & empty) for their rocket. Bottles must be rated for carbonated products because we will be creating a high pressure environment inside them prior to launch. Bottles must have their labels intact to be used. Extra credit is available to students bringing in additional bottles (maximum of 5).Forces of Flight test dates:Monday- 4/30 Tuesday- 5/1Thursday- 5/17 Friday- 5/11***Comprehensive Flight Notes are available in the Notes/ Study Guides section. After school study help is available by request.7TH GRADE: 7th graders working on their Bridges unit. This is an extensive unit that begins with the physical forces acting on structures, and culminates in the students designing, drawing, and building a bridge of their own. Currently, students, working in groups, are building the bridges they have designed, based on their understanding of the bridge types and forces that work upon them. Dates for load testing the bridges are as follows (the bridge and all accompanying paperwork must be complete prior to this date):Monday- 6/4 Tuesday- 6/5Thursday- 5/31 Friday- 6/1**AE & afterschool time is available for groups who feel they need more time on construction. Paperwork can be completed at home.8TH GRADE: The Mousetrap Racer project is complete and racers have been tested. Project grades will be returned over the next couple of weeks. Currently, the 8th grade classes are reviewing the Technology & Engineering content they have learned over the last three years in preparation for the Science/ Technology/ Engineering MCAS on May 16th & 17th. Reminder: each class has a practice Open Response due for homework the week of 5/1-5/7. ***Extra credit! Students can bring in CDs/DVDs for use as wheels on the mousetrap racer project and earn extra credit. ***
