Classroom Update: December 2009
Chapter 10 involves the study of "Forces". We will be studying Balanced and Unbalanced forces using various demonstrations and examples in the classroom. Students will create vector posters in class to characterize either a balanced or unbalanced force. A vector is a physical quantity that describes both magnitude (strength) and direction of a force. We will also study the forces of gravity, friction, and other natural forces that can affect the motion of an object using the CPO Lab equipment.
"Acceleration due to Gravity" is the next concept we will tie into our unit on Forces. Myth or Fact? Will a penny dropped off the Empire State building gain enough velocity from acceleration due to gravity to hurt/kill a person walking below if it hits them? We will investigate this in class using the rate for acceleration due to gravity (9.8 m/sec2) to see if this is a myth or a fact as a real-world example of physics.
Have a wonderful HOLIDAY SEASON!
