| Classroom Update: November 2007
I want to thank both parents and students for their many well wishes and
e-mails. They are very comforting..thank you!
Below is a copy of the letter written by me and read to the students on
11-27-07 by Ms. Hicks. Administration, the 8th Grade Team and Dr. Garrone
(School Pshychologist) were also present.
Dear 8th Graders,
I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday and I have heard that you may
have been wondering where I have been. I thought I would let you know that I
have been thinking about you as well. The reason I have been out is because I
have had lots of tests and doctor�s appointments during the past few weeks. At
this time, I thought I should share the results with you. Unfortunately, the
doctors have diagnosed me with cancer. Yes, I was extremely shocked and upset
and did not know what to do at first but I want you all to know that I can
beat this, but I just need some time to do so. That being said I will be out
for a few months so that I can have my surgery, treatments and stay strong so
that I can overcome this.
You are a great bunch of kids and I will miss you all tremendously. I will be
asking Ms. Hicks and Mrs. Mitchell about all of you, so promise me that you
will continue to work your hardest in science class for me. We have talked
about setting goals and reaching them. Well, I have set a goal for myself. It
is WHEN I recover and if I am feeling up to it I hope to see you all the night
of your 8th grade graduation. So, keep working hard and make me proud when I
see you all again that night in June. I will miss you all so much!
