Nut Free Classroom

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

September 2007

Dear Parents / Guardians,

This letter is to inform you that our classroom will be a nut free learning environment this year. This is to ensure the safety and well being of all the students enrolled in our classroom. This means that each of us needs to be certain that all peanuts, nuts, and nut related products are not brought into our classroom. Please read all labels very carefully when packing your child's snacks and lunch. This is a health hazard that has the potential for a life threatening condition.

The cafeteria does not allow peanuts (peanut products) in their lunch program, and all students at the school are asked to refrain from bringing in ANY peanuts and peanut related products in their lunches. There is a ÏNut FreeÓ table in the cafeteria for safety at lunchtime. However, if any child brings in peanut/ nut products, s/he will be asked to clean their hands prior to going to recess.

I recognize that this can be a challenge with young children, but ensuring the health and safety of all of our students continues to be an important focus at Cole School. For the family of those students who are affected, it needs to be a constant, daily requirement. Your understanding in working through these issues is greatly appreciated.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of our school nurses (Mrs. Nechtem or Mrs. Mudgett) or our principal, Ms. Nikas.

With much appreciation,

Laura Frost
