This is a new system we are using in our classroom to control the volume of our voices, however it can also be used to convey how we are feeling, or to help control our impulses.  When our voices are at a 1 (green) we are not making any sound.  We have been discussing times when our voices should be at a 1 (in the hallway, when we are making a line, when the teacher is talking, as well as during a fire drill).  When our voices are at a 2 (light green) we are whispering.  This could be when we are in a library or just when we are supposed to be working quietly at our tables.  When our voices are at a 3 (yellow) we are using our regular conversation voice.  This is the voice we use most often at school.  This is what we are going to strive for when working or playing in the classroom.  We should only use a 4 (orange) voice when we are outside at recess.  A #4 voice is  a loud, outdoor voice.  Number 5 (red) voices are only to be used for emergencies.  This is when we are yelling.  The children are really understanding this system and are using it very appropriately.  It has helped us to understand the level of our voices and appropriate times to use certain voices.  Thank you Mrs. Belthoff for sharing this information with us!!!
