Dear Cottage Cougar Families,
The Cottage Street Parent Teacher
Organization (CSS PTO) has many exciting events and activities planned for
this year, as Cottage Street School is ready to celebrate its 60th
birthday. These things can happen only with the help of our parent volunteers.
We encourage you to become involved! It is a wonderful opportunity to create
lasting friendships, while enriching our children's daily activities.
Your participation in the CSS PTO provides
Cottage Street School with wonderful opportunities, materials and programs
that greatly enhance all of our children’s education and overall experience.
The CSS PTO members work together, to build a strong sense of community, by
sponsoring many wonderful events. Last year the PTO donated thousands of
dollars to build the outdoor classroom, paint the world map, create a new
drama program, and enhance our library and physical education programs. We
also sponsored many special programs, such as Inkaswasi and Yo-Yo Show, which
our children would not otherwise have been able to experience. In the
beginning of the year, we have a teacher reimbursement program which helps
teachers to make special purchases that enrich their classroom. We run two
book fairs, in the fall and spring, and have a monthly community service
project that all classes participate in, to provide lunches for Mainspring
House, a local shelter. We run family fun nights and game nights, which helps
to bring our community together and is a great way to meet your child’s
classmates and their families. We have a fabulous event every spring… our
annual Fun Fair. Fun Fair generates the majority of our fundraising income and
provides a great time for not only CSS families but also for the entire
community. Your membership and participation are vital in making these things
happen!
The annual PTO membership drive is now
underway and we invite all families to join! Membership dues are $25 per
family. Please make checks payable to Cottage Street School PTO (CSS PTO) and
return your application and check (click
here for the application form).
Only those families that join membership will
receive the 2009-2010 Cottage Street School Telephone Directory. The directory
is always handy to contact classmates for birthday parties and play dates.
PTO meetings are held on the first Wednesday
of each month, with the exception of our September meeting. Meetings take
place in the school library, at 7:00 pm. Childcare is provided, free of charge.
Our first meeting is Tuesday, September 8th.
We are looking forward to seeing many old and new faces.
