Dear Families,
This week flew by, as they all will until the end of year, I am sure!
Below, highlights from this week:
Writing
Students peer conferenced to add details to their stories. Then, they began
the process of "re-seeing" or revision, by picking an important question that
matters to them and reading to answer that questions (For example, "Did I
REALLY show what this character's struggle is about?).
Math
We finished up our unit on landmarks in the hundreds and thousands. I have
been so impressed with all of the strategy work that our class has done.
Students have done a fantastic job breaking apart numbers and using number
lines, pictures, and landmarks to solve numbers across the hundreds and even
thousands! We started a 3-D geometry unit, it is a fun hands-on unit!
Reading
We continued our Patricia Polacco unit and students have been making fantastic
connections between the author's life and the many books we have read in read
alouds and small groups. Ask you child what their favorite Patricia Polacco
book is, and why!
Science
Students continued to observe their plants and learned about the life cycle of
their plants so far. I have a pretty good feeling that by the time we return
on Tuesday, the plants will have flower blossoms! Students also worked hard
in the computer lab to type their brochures in publisher. Publisher allows us
to make very professional-looking brochures but isn't the most intuitive of
programs. I have been so impressed with the class' independence with this
project. Congratulate your child on their hard work!
Miscellaneous
Please not that we will NOT have Word Study homework next week, and that
Colonial Day will be on Thursday, May 31. Feel free to contact me with any
questions!
Enjoy the long weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Crowley
