Classroom News - 5/18

Reading - We continued our study of Patricia Polacco as a class and finished up small group work with biographies.  During our small group reading, students shared "big questions" they came up with about their texts.  (For example, a "what would you do if..." question.)  If you're looking to start a conversation with your student about their reading, ask THEM to come up with a big question!

Writing - Students continued to revise their stories.  We also began editing by working on tense -- students made sure their story is in one tense and began editing if necessary.  We'll continue with editing next week.

Math - MCAS, of course!  Students appeared to be working carefully and taking their time.  In "regular" math class, we continued working on addition and subtraction strategies; more specifically, using related problems to solve another problem.

Science - Students continued working on their adaptations pamphlets.  Next week, we'll go into the computer lab and learn how to use Microsoft Publisher to create professional looking typed pamphlets!
