Dear Families,
On Friday we did some planting in the
garden out front. Stop by and check on our bean and pea seeds! We plan on
helping out with the watering and weeding every few days.
This week we will be spending time
discussing Memorial Day and reading books by well-known author Kevin Henkes.
His books focus on social issues that all students can relate to, especially
this time of year as we are winding down and talking about moving on. On
Thursday, we are looking forward to having Victoria's mom come in and read to
us in Spanish and teach us more Spanish words! Hola!
We will also be working on our skits for
the assembly on Friday. We are not sending out formal invites as this is
usually just a student body assembly, however, in the past some parents have
come so if you are around and would like to stop by, we will begin at 8:45.
The skits will be recorded on video tape and put on a screen for viewing.
We will also focus on:
*word study ~ sight
words "across, month, nothing" / contractions / homophones / adjectives,
nouns, verbs
*reading ~ reviewing suffixes (-s,
-ing, -es, -ed)
*math ~ double
digit subtraction / place value / money / reviewing time
*writing ~ poetry / letter writing
/ journals / personal narratives / fiction and nonfiction / writing prompts
*social studies ~ Mexico (Spanish
words, Mayan and Aztec Indian crafts and storytelling, rainforest)
*science ~ wind / insects /
seasonal changes
Have a great long weekend!
Sincerely,
~Ms. Bedo~
