In Kindergarten, we do not have formal homework assignments. At times we will have special projects. However there are many things that you can do at home with your child to enhance their learning experience. The following are a few ideas. Phonics: Review papers that have the sounds and sentence on them. Ask- What says? giving the sound of a letter. It is a good way to review. Reading: Practice sight word vocabulary/"popcorn" words. Students should be able to find them in stories that you read to them. Let them search the newspaper or magazine for them. Daily reading to your child is an important and wonderful way to establish a love of reading. Math: Students can count grocery items, play cards, or any game. Estimate how many things that you might have in your shopping bag. Read numbers on signs or packages. Review counting and number recognition on our calendars that go home at the end of the month. Science: There are so many things around us that can demonstrate science but simply observing nature around us. Many of you have birdfeeders or can see wild turkeys, or deer locally. Collecting things from around your yard such as rocks or leaves etc. Discussing and observing the weather. Social Studies: In Kindergarten, our main focus is holidays and why they are celebrated.Just reviewing the projects that come home that are related to the variety of holidays that we cover is helpful.
