Bicycle Helmet Bike riding is a lot of fun, but accidents happen. According to Kids Health (http://kidshealth.org) every year, about 300,000 children go to the emergency room due to bicycle injuries. Head injuries are the most common cause of death, disability, and serious injury in children involved in a bicycle accident. Massachusetts requires children younger than thirteen to wear a helmet in order to help prevent a serious head injury. The United States government created stringent standards for bicycle helmets. The helmet should carry a Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) sticker. The bike helmet should fit comfortably around the head. Never wear a hat under the helmet. Make sure that the chin strap forms a "V" around the ear and fits snugly under the chin. The helmet should be worn level and cover the forehead, a finger width above the eyebrows.
