AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

The Nashoba Regional School District has approved policies and procedures
for an Automated External Defibrillation Program. Automated external
defibrillators (AEDs) are to be used by trained persons on victims of sudden
cardiac arrest or ventricular fibrillation. We hope we never have to use
these devices but believe that they are important to have available because
for every minute that defibrillation is delayed, the chance of survival
decreases by 10%. We have recently trained 16 Sawyer staff members in CPR
and use of the AED. The district has installed AEDs in all school
buildings. They have been placed in the buildings so that they will be
available for after school and community events. In the Sawyer building,
The AED is located in the hallway outside the gym. In the Emerson building,
the AED is located in the gym. Please remember that an AED is emergency
equipment like a fire alarm or extinguishers. The AED cabinet will alarm
when opened. If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them
Linda McInnis at Emerson (978-779-6497) or Darlene Perkins at Sawyer (978-
779-2295).

Interscholastic SPORTS
Any student in grades 6,7 or 8 that are interested in trying out for one of
the interscholastic sports programs (basketball, track, cross country,
softball or baseball) must have a current physical (within the past calendar
year) on file with
the school nurse to be eligible for try-outs.

Vision and Hearing Referrals

Vision and Hearing Screenings will begin soon. All students in grades 1 - 8
are evaluated. Most Kindergarden students had their vision evaluated by
their primary care physician with their 5 year old physical in accordance
with the new state law. Those that did not have it done will have it
completed during this time. Hearing will also be evaluated for these
students. This is a very important screening because it helps to
identify chilren that need to be evaluated further. Both hearing and vision
are integral to the learning process. The earlier we can identify a child
that may need intervention, the better for that child.

UPDATE EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBERS

Please remember to update emergency phone numbers with the school nurse and
the school office if you have a change in where you can be reached during
the school day. It is essential that we know where to reach you in case of
an emergency.

VISTING PETS

Just a reminder that we do not allow pets to visit school for Show and
Tell. It presents a health risk for the many students and staff that have
significant allergies and asthma. Your child is welcome to bring in pictures
of his favorite friend to share with his class.
