| RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY
The 4th and 5th "R's" of Education
This program was initiated in September, 2001 in attempt to promote and
reinforce those positive behaviors/characteristics that Sawyer School has
long been known for. In the broader community, it seems that often people
forget to take time to always be respectful toward others. We at the Sawyer
School put a high value on these character traits and seek to promote them
among our students and staff. Below are some of the compnents of this
program.
1. Community Expectations
All members of the Sawyer community participated in the process to develop
expectations for our community. They include:
1. Treat others the way that you want to be treated.
2. Respect everyone and everything.
3. Always try your best.
4. Accept responsibility for your actions.
2. Sawyer Stars.
All members of our community are encouraged to "catch" someone doing
something good, kind, respectful, etc. When this happens, they jot down a
few words about the incident and submit that person for a Sawyer Star. A
star is posted on the wall. We have a wall at Emerson and Sawyer. Each
student gets a Sawyer Star pencil and their name is read at the monthly
assembly.
3. Golden Eagles
Please refer to the special section on this site that describes this aspect
of our program and lists those students recognized as Golden Eagle
Recipients.
4. Word of the Month
A special word is selected each month for discussion and study that relates
to character developement. For a list of this years words, please refer to
the special section on this site.
The program is continually growing and evolving. Any feedback that you have
is always appreciated.
