Goals of the School Health Services Program

My goals are to:
 1. Identify, remove, minimize and/or manage health issues so that children
can be in school.
 2. Develop care plans so that a child with a health issue can safely remain
in class.
 3. Screen and intervene for health problems so that all children are ready
to learn when they come to school.
 4. Educate, coordinate, communicate around health issues so teachers are
knowledgeable about student health issues/concerns.
 5. Promote a safe school environment for the Sawyer school community.
 6. To act as an advocate for children and/or their families.

New Definition of School Nursing

"School Nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that
advances the well-being, academic success and lifelong acheivement of
students. To the end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to
normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and/or
potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively
collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation,
self-management, self-advocacy and learning."
