The Woman's Greed by Edwin Ray

One day a man came to a poor woman's house and said "If you can rasie 27 fat pigs in a month I will give you $20,000." And then he said "Also the fatter they are the more I   will pay you." The woman said "But where will I get the pigs?" The man said "I will give you 27 thin pigs." The woman said "OK." The pigs were delivered an the woman fed them five times a day for a month. Finally the month was over and the man came over. He knocked on the door. The woman answered. She said "Hello, the pigs are in the back of the house in the pen." The man said "Ahh, have you checked on them lately?" "Not since yesterday" said the woman. "Well let's check, shall we" said the man. "Sure" said the woman. When they went to the pen all the pigs were dead from fatness. "NOO" screeched the woman. The man just smiled and said "Never be greedy or it will take over." The woman was crying "NOO." She kept crying for days.

Moral: Never be greedy or it will take over.

The Fox and the Blackberries by Alec Sun

One day, Fox was gathering food for the freezing winter. There was barely anything left, for the squirrels and mice had taken the food on their rampage. Then Fox spotted a bush with some kind of berry in it. “Oh, this is my lucky day!” Fox whispered to himself. When Fox approached the bush, he saw some variety of berry that he didn’t know about. He quickly turned his face away in disgust. “That yucky black color, it’s no use picking them. They’ll probably taste rotten anyway.” When Fox was trotting home to tell his mom about the berry, Bear came to that same bush and quickly shoved the blackberries into his mouth. Yum! When Fox was told what the Berry was called and that it was delicious, he raced at lightning speed back to the bush. It was too late. The blackberries were gone. “I should have been open to even gross-looking stuff” he weeped.

Moral: Don’t judge a book by its cover.

This is a poem that Sam wrote based on an extension project in reading class:

Monster I am lying deep

Waiting for a boat to creep I

f I were to find a man

Lying, dying, in the sand

If he saw me he would run about

Wobbling on the sand like a trout

Screaming, screaming waiting for me

Waiting for me to end his terrible misery

Man may rule, but I am king

Of this dark blue wet thing

Monster I am lying deep

Waiting for a boat to creep

Echidna

By: Emily Laskey

She had a beautiful head, the one of a nymph. Her body as a serpent. Her mother was Ceto, Typhon her mate. But she was so full of hate. Hercules laid Typhon down. The rest left for future heroes all around. Challenge them I think I might, if I see them in the light.

A Thanksgiving Wish By: Christopher Kline

If I were Amanda and I had the bigger end of the wishbone, I would wish that once a year there was “Imagination Day.”  Imagination Day is when people’s imagination becomes reality for the day.  My Imagination Day would be to visit with fantasy creatures or spend time with my friends from Pennsylvania.  I think about both of these things often and this would be very exciting for me.

I’m sure everyone imagines something they would do or experience if given the chance.  If there was Imagination Day, this could actually happen for them.  Some people might imagine they were rich while others may imagine the homeless having houses and the hungry having food to eat.  My parents might imagine everything is free or they may imagine a nice vacation on a quiet tropical beach.  Even others may imagine themselves visiting with a famous person from the past.  Some people might imagine something a little simpler -- perhaps a gardener would imagine his plants growing huge and green.  Everyone may imagine something different, but if my wish came true it would let people live their imagination for a day.

Why would I want this?  I think that having an imagination is very important as it gives people something to dream about.  It also helps people to be creative.  Sometimes things get boring and your imagination gives you a chance to escape or to do things you can’t do in real life.  I think of many things in my imagination and I would love to have an imagination Day to see what they are really like.  It would give me a chance to experience things that I can only think about.  But, most importantly it would be possible for everyone to experience different things.  I think an Imagination Day would give people a chance to feel good about things and make them happy.  It would be something to look forward to for everyone.  What would you do on Imagination Day?
