Mr. Atwood is entering his 16th year of teaching high school English. He
attended Boston College for his undergraduate studies, where he majored in
English and Secondary Education while competing as a recruited Division I
runner. At B.C., he also interned with the Boston Globe Sports Department,
publishing articles each Sunday for three years on high school football,
track, and cross country meets.
Mr. Atwood later taught high school for seven years then went onto
the University of Southern California to earn his Master's of Arts in
Professional Writing degree in 2004. After three years pursuing a
screenwriting career in Santa Monica, his son, William was born. Living in a
small apartment, he made the decision return to Massachusetts to raise his
family. Mr. Atwood was also highly successful as the the head cross-country
and spring track coach at Foxborough, winning the school's first Eastern
Massachusetts State Championship in many years and advancing runners to both
the MIAA All-State Meet and New England Championships. He was recognized at
the Boston Globe's "Coach of the Year" for his efforts. His collection of
short stories, HiStory of Santa Monica was published in May of 2010. He has
published several stories in literary journals and Internet sites over the
