NOTICIAS ABRIL 2013

        SPANISH UPDATE

The goals of the Spanish curriculum are to teach oral comprehension and written expression, and also to expose the students to various components of Spanish culture.Students in all grade levels are learning about Cinco de Mayo (May 5th), which is much like our 4th of July. Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican-American celebration of the courage of the Mexican people during the battle of Puebla (La Batalla de Puebla) on May 5th, 1862.This victory showed the courage and strength of the Mexican troops and became a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism.

In First Grade, students are making paper sombreros and dancing the Mexican hat dance. We will learn vocabulary related to la familia (the family). Some classes will act out the story of Los Tres Osos(The Three Bears).

In Second Grade, students worked hard on a clothing (la ropa) and seasons (las estaciones) unit. We have begun a unit based on farm animals, and will enjoy the story called Los cuatro cantantes de Guadalajara(The Four Singers of Guadalajara).

In Third Grade, some classes are learning body parts vocabulary in Spanish, and are concluding with the exciting Monstruo Locoproject. Other classes are beginning a unit onlacomida(food).

In Fourth Grade, classes are working on a clothing unit, which concludes with a project entitled “Mi Clóset Ideal” (My Ideal Closet).
