I am a transplanted New Yorker so I have 2 strikes against me around here
because I am an avid Yankees and football Giants fan. So, as the song
goes "if I can make it here I can make it anywhere". Teaching is a second
career for me. In my previous life I was engineer in the private sector
doing ceramic an metals materials research & development and
directing/managing manufacturing operations. I love my new career teaching
because of the tremendous satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment I get by
helping children grow up and learn math.
I have 3 of my own children. My oldest daughter is a senior in college, my
son graduated high school a year ago and is finding his direction in life and
my youngest daughter is in the 11th grade. Of course I have learned a great
deal from my children. What I do in the classroom is often shaped by how I
would want my own childrens teacher to do it.
You will find out quickly that I have a great passion for math. We need to
do math in school so that the portion of the brain that does "math thinking"
can develop properly so we can use it for all our life.
Continue to develop the ability of our young adults to think
mathematically/logically, and to learn to be risk takers & problem solvers.
