How can I raise my grades?

If you are missing homework, complete the forgotten assignments.
If they are late, you will not receive full credit, but some
credit is always better than no credit. If you have received
a low score on a test, ask me for a retake. If you received a
low score on a writing piece, do an additional draft including
the recommended changes. You may also want to try doing an extra-
credit assignment relating to the subject area that you wish to
improve upon. Develop an idea that you might think be related to
material that we have covered (or will be covering), and I will
check to see if I think the idea is appropriate. It may consist
of extra work in one of the workbooks/textbooks, or it may
consist of doing an independent project (I have allowed group
projects if multiple students are seeking extra credit) that
results in a presentation to the class and/or me. In the past,
students have made educational videos, posterboards, models,
review games, etc. This work will need to be completed
independently (I'm not looking to see how parents can raise
grades)and on your own time. I am here (before, during, and
after school) to answer questions and provide support when
needed.

How do I go about dropping my instrument involvement?

There is an opportunity to stop participating in Band or
Orchestra or Chorus at the end of each term. In order to do
this, you must contact the teacher in this area and explain to
them that you wish to stop participating. Then you must return
any materials that are requested from you. I encourage students
to stick with it for at least half the year. Playing an
instrument is hard work, but once you get the hang of it, it can
be really fun and rewarding.

Do students have an option to take make-up tests if they want?

Although not an option with quizzes, students may retake tests.
There is a series of guidelines that indicate eligibility for
retaking tests that I will be glad to share with you if you
are wondering if a retake is an option for you or your child.

When can I stay for extra help?

I am after school to help students on Tuesdays. All students
are encouraged to stay (especially to review before tests).
Students are welcome to stay in for recess and review material as
well. Mrs. Jeannotte is after on Mondays and Wednesdays.

How do I go about volunteering to chaperone for a field-trip?

You need to get an acceptable-chaperone form from the school and
return it to the Central Office (Igo Building). I would be
willing to send it there myself if the form was returned to me.
The next step is to let the teachers know that you are interested
when a field-trip is approaching.

What's the deal with afterschool activities?

Afterschool activities occur Mon-Thurs and usually run from 2:24-
3:24 with the late busses coming shortly thereafter. Students
have no obligation and need to show no long-lasting committment
with most clubs (there are some exceptions). In order to stay
after, a Release Form must be signed by a parent/guardian. Check
a couple out because they are a good way to meet new
people and maybe find a new hobby!

Are 5th graders eligible for the honor roll?

No. The honor roll is reserved for students in grades 6-8. To
achieve honor roll status, students must obtain all A or B
grades. 5th Graders who accomplish this feat should feel awesome
about it, regardless of whether or not they are officially
recognized by the rest of the school. You recognize it, they
recognize it, and I recognize it.
