Problem Solving
Format
POW's - Problems of the Week
Just The Facts: Begin each problem by identifying what you know about the problem with a list of facts. You may also want to include information you will need to use that may not have been in the problem. (example: you may need to know there are 3 feet in a yard).
Problem Statement: Write a concise statement of the problem. This restatement should be clear and brief so that the reader will know exactly what you were asked to do for each part of the problem. If there are parts to the problem, label each part with a letter.
Procedure: Give a detailed explanation of how you came to your solution. Choose a strategy and use it consistently throughout the problem. Show it in numbers. Explain it in words! Use charts and graphs when appropriate.
Conclusion: State your solution to each part of the problem in complete sentences. Your answer should be brief and answer the question from the problem statement.
Extra Credit Extension: Create a similar question to the original one, that some way extends your knowledge of the solution. Then solve it! Write up the way it is slightly different and how you solved it. You do not need to write the solution to the extra credit in POW format.
