About The Teacher

This is my 5th year teaching 7th grade math at the FWH Middle School.
Teaching is a second career for me.

Prior to entering this field I worked as a software engineer for 25 years in
the telecommunications field. My most significant work was on the modem
control software that America On-Line uses to answer your calls into the
internet. But the work that I take most pride in was taking part in the
first space shuttle launches from the data control center in Huntsville
Alabama.

Working in engineering taught me that the power of mathematics is it has the
ability to allow us to reason, comunicate and persuade people from around
the world. It is truely a world wide language.

I have a degree in Systems Engineering and a Masters degree in Technology
Policy along with my teaching certifications in math.

I choose to go into to teaching to encourage and excite that next generation
of engineers and scientists.

On the personal side, my wife Faye is an occupational therapist, my daughter
Ilana is a sophomore at American University and my son, Arnold, is a high
school junior. My spare time is spent; racing bicycles, reading history,
listening to music (all kinds, except country and western) and cooking.

Mission For The Class

To excite your curiosity about how the world can be described through
mathematics.

To develop your ability to solve problems, using logic and mathematical
techinques.

To have you be able to explain how and why you came to a paricular
solution. (This is what I mean when I say "Show your work")

To prepare you for algebra class.
